Membership Requirements
IMPORTANT: Everyone must submit a copy of their DD-214 or discharge papers
Eligibility
Membership eligibility in the American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces. This requires that a candidate is either still be serving honorably, or having served at least one day of active military duty between the following dates and was honorably discharged:
- April 6th, 1917 – November 11th, 1918 (World War I)
- December 7th, 1941 – Present
Thanks to the LEGION Act (Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service Act) signed into law on July 30, 2019, the current eligibility period is Dec. 7, 1941, to the present, and includes the current war campaigns. Previously, there were seven declared war periods. Now there are two: the current war period dating back to World War II and another covering World War I.
For any questions please contact our membership chairman, or stop at the Post.
